Updates, change notes and bug fixes
Last changed Aug. 21
WRF2 has been implemented at 24-km (higher resolution planned after some evaluation of
current runs). WRF2 results (all physics) are markedly different (often drier) than WRF1
or MM5 runs at the same resolution. For more information on the current configuration,
Changes/fixes:
- WRF_Eta[h,i,j] output only every 3h. Fixed Jan. 12
- Some animation times are still missing. Fixed Jan. 12
- Problem plotting WRF[a...g]: output now every hour Fixed Jan. 10
- Animation, dprog/dt problems showing blank frames - Fixed Jan. 6
- Expanded dProg/dt. Fixed Jan. 3.
Known issues:
- WRF-12 km w/Eta IC seems to be running on 12h-old data.
- Workstation eta runs are not being plotted properly.
- Workstation eta runs need to be remapped to the same projection
used for other models.
Planned short-term changes:
- More fields. Shown now are selected output fields that are available for all
models - MM5, workstation Eta, and WRF.
Forecast soundings are high on the list.
- Alter MM5 domain to match that of the WRF and Workstation Eta.
Coming up:
- Ensemble plots, utilizing all current and earlier runs. Included will be
spaghetti and probability plots. Comprehensive ensemble assessment
is necessary as well.
- Station time series data for selected cities, from all models.
- Implement ARPS and RSM (underway). Resources currently exist to make up to six
additional 24-km runs
(total for both models), during the 00z cycle.
- Verification, to analyses and observations.
- Ensemble members assessing observational uncertainty. Ongoing research on the design and
assessment of Perturbed Observations (PO), Breeding of Growing Modes (BGM),
and perturbed lateral boundary conditions will be applied to our regional
ensemble modeling effort.
